On the hunt for interior design talent, the web led us to Upstart where we floated a project for an automotive interior overhaul. The response was hearty, but it was Kamila Reis of the Barcelona-based Reis & Reis who seized the spotlight. A skim through their portfolio revealed a past collaboration with Porsche - a promising sign. References were a must, and Kamila did not disappoint, presenting us with two formidable names: Hoover Chan from San Francisco and Tom Scarpello from Orlando, both echoing praises for Kamila.
Tom is a name that resonates with the pulse of the automotive industry, having left his mark at Nissan and Ford before steering Revology Cars to re-imagine the iconic 1960s Ford Mustangs and Shelby GTs with a modern twist. Meanwhile, Hoover's career is a tapestry of entrepreneurship, deeply woven with his passion for R&D and Noble cars. With such glowing recommendations, our collaboration with Kamila was a green light.
Our partnership kicked off with a well-crafted proposal from Kamila, setting the stage for our weekly design rendezvous.
Week 1: Concept and Direction
Week 1 kicked off with a splash of innovation as Kamila proposed daring changes to the center console, doors, and instrument panel. Despite our reservations about the color palette, the direction was exciting.
Week 2: The Seats
In Week 2, we delved into the heart of automotive luxury: the seats. Kamila’s presentation was a tale of two styles - one, a nod to Bugatti’s intricate stitching, and the other, a timeless dance of leather and fabric.
Week 3: The Classic or Bugatti Look?
The third week had us wading through a sea of color options, with a keen eye on perfecting that classic aesthetic for the seats and door panels.
Week 4: The Classic It Is
By Week 4, our path was clear - the Classic look had won us over. The narrative now was about refining - a Standard Classic for the purists, a Sport Classic for the thrill-seekers, and putting the 'Bugatti' design in the rearview.
Week 5: The Steering Wheel
Week 5 brought the steering wheel into focus. Our quest for a classic yet airbag-compliant design culminated in a minimalist choice that called for a dash more spice in its design.
Week 6: Coming Together
As we approached Week 6, the pieces of our design puzzle began to converge, revealing an interior that captured our imagination and enthusiasm.
Week 7: Final Design
Finally, Week 7 saw us at the crossroads of creation, with four designs on the table: two Standard Classic and two Sport Classic, each harmonizing the center console with the original ethos, yet amplified by an upgraded infotainment and sound system.
And so, the curtain fell on our design journey... for the moment. Stay tuned, as the roads we travel are ever-winding.
