In our last blog we discussed the lights: front, fog, rear and strip. After doing over 40 one-on-one interviews with Porsche owners and enthusiast we realized that more is to be done.
Rear Light Strip
The light strip on the original Porsche 930 Turbo, which is a prominent design feature, is a reflector, not an actual light. This strip is located between the tail lights and serves primarily as a visual design element and a reflector to improve the visibility of the car to other drivers in low light conditions. It does not illuminate independently like a traditional light. The Porsche 930 Turbo, introduced in the late 1970s, is known for its distinctive styling and performance, and this reflector strip is one of its signature rear design cues.
Porsche later introduced models where the strip between the tail lights, similar to the one found on the original 930, was illuminated, evolving from a simple reflector to an actual light strip. This feature became more pronounced in later Porsche models, especially with the introduction of LED technology, which allowed for continuous light bands across the rear of the vehicle.
There are aftermarket solutions available for Porsche 930 owners who wish to upgrade or modify their vehicles with illuminated strip lights. These aftermarket products are designed to replace or complement the original reflector strip, adding a modern touch to the classic 930's rear appearance with an illuminated light strip.
Light Strip Option

We decided to offer three options to our customers: reflector strip, light strip, and no strip with body color panel between the rear brake lights. The prototype will have the reflector strip.
Fog Lights
An additional design element to the 930 are the fog lights underneath the bumper. In our original design we were going to offer either no fog lights, or a more subdued fog light look by using the original 993 fog lights and flipping them horizontally to fit the design curves better.
We added one more option which would be "clip on" fog lights that would be attached underneath the bumper and customers will have the choice of a rectangular of circled shaped fog light.
Some other alternatives were considered, but we decided to table these until some point in the future.
Front Light Aesthetic
An important part of the build will be the ability for the customer to customize many parts of the car. One aesthetic element that keeps coming up is that some of our research participants like the ring around the front light body color, others like it in black and yet some would like to see in chrome. This provides an additional customization feature for future customers.
